“If you’re not enough without it, you’ll never be enough with it“
What’s your number? What’s your price tag? $1,000,000? $1B? $10,000? $0.00? In terms of pure wealth, pure capital, what amount of money would make all your woes go away and make you truly happy?
The question is really about character. It’s meant to accomplish several things: (1) let go of your monetary inhibitions and freely associate money in a present state of mind; (2) to focus on an actual amount that represents your perceived financial position relative to that of what you may have felt impossible; (3) to think about what you would do with all that money! The last component is really the mirror-effect of money! It is the test of character that comes with financial abundance.
For some a financial windfall would mean a life of resplendent ease, never returning a penny back to humanity; for others it might be a life of helping others in a cause that you deeply care about; for a rare few, they would be perfectly content not receiving a dime! We’ve all seen those lottery shows where the winner spends his cash loads on a pile of garish trinkets and M1-ish money.
There is a quote that sums up our relationship to money that comes from a movie you might have seen called Cool Runnings. The quote is about the importance of a gold medal, which was the defining ambition of one of the movie’s characters. I think about this quote from time to time because it really is beyond the scope of this movie and seemingly originated from the mind of some ancient, all-knowing philosopher:
“…a gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you’re not enough without one, you’ll never be enough with one.”
Or, rephrased: “If you’re not enough without all that money, you’ll never be enough with it.”
In reality, whatever amount of money that will supposedly make us “happy” is merely a substitute for a state of mind, or quantum state, that we would like to achieve. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that $1,000,000 is not to be desired, it’s the reality of having it that is the true barometer of our ability to attract it. If one had any sense at all, you would know that $1,000,000 is not worth what it used to be anymore. After taxes, paying off debts, helping out that family member etc., how much would we really have left in our own pockets?
The point here is to think about what your life’s work would be if you had that monetary amount you’ve always wanted. What would your legacy be? I’m sure having that house and car and gold toilet would make you feel pretty cool, but what about beyond that? Try and envision great wealth for a larger purpose than yourself! Open yourself up to the possibilities that the Universe might have for you and you never know, you might just receive that amount!
