The first in our series on FLAG MAPS is going to be Eastern Europe. Now, by definition there is no agreed upon official definition for “Eastern Europe” so we are going to be ultra-inclusive in this article and add bits of Northern Europe and a smattering Southern Europe and all of the Balkans. There are as many definitions of Eastern Europe as there are people defining it so I’m not even going to touch that with a 10 foot Pole.
If you’re into flags and countries of the world then there’s nothing better than FLAG MAPS! What better way to represent the pride of a country than with a picture of that country’s geographic borders with its flag and national colors superimposed over it. It’s the best way to learn about the world.
At the very strictest definition, Eastern Europe includes the following 10 countries (in alphabetical order), most of these are tricolours:
- 🇧🇾 Belarus
- 🇧🇬 Bulgaria
- 🇨🇿 Czech Republic
- 🇭🇺 Hungary
- 🇲🇩 Moldova
- 🇵🇱 Poland
- 🇷🇴 Romania
- 🇷🇺 Russia
- 🇸🇰 Slovakia
- 🇺🇦 Ukraine
However, if you include the 8 Balkan countries that number rises to 18 and those include (in alphabetical order):
- 🇦🇱 Albania
- 🇧🇦 Bosnia & Herzegovina
- 🇭🇷 Croatia
- 🇽🇰 Kosovo
- 🇲🇰 Macedonia
- 🇲🇪 Montenegro
- 🇷🇸 Serbia
- 🇸🇮 Slovenia
Depending on your definition, Eastern Europe may or may not include the 3 Baltic Countries. Since that is a hotly contested debate I’m going to avoid taking sides by including the Baltics in both of my Eastern European and Northern European flag maps.
- 🇪🇪 Estonia
- 🇱🇻 Latvia
- 🇱🇹 Lithuania
Here’s a nifty slide show of all of the Eastern European country flag maps! After that are they displayed one-by-one! I’m getting giddy with excitement just thinking about how cool this is, it’s geek out time for me! Just think about which one is your favorite, where your ancestors come from, or which flags are the nicest looking. Static rectangular flags are one thing, but to see them transposed onto the shapes of their representative countries is next level nerdiness for anyone who loves #vexillology #flags.
ONE LOVE! WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE EUROPEAN FLAG?
